Project planning
A clear plan before you build.
Some ideas need working through before they can be priced. Together, we’ll turn yours into a written plan covering what to build, how it should work and an estimated build budget.
- Price
- Fixed, agreed before we start
- You get
- A written plan that’s yours to keep
- Best for
- Bigger ideas, online tools and anything that’s hard to price yet
Who it’s for
Turn the idea into something you can build.
You might know the problem you want to solve but still be working out the features, who will use them or where to start.
We’ll work through those questions together and agree what belongs in the first version. I’ll bring it together in a document you can use to discuss the build and get quotes.
Before Petal & Code, I worked in project planning across engineering, IT and defence. That experience shapes how I organise the work and make decisions clear.
An example of what your plan could include
3. What the booking tool needs to do
- Customer picks a service and a time. Only slots that are actually free are shown.
- Deposit taken at the point of booking. Card payment, with the balance due on the day.
- Reminder sent the day before. Email or text, with a link to move the booking.
- You see the day’s bookings in one place. No separate diary to keep.
Can wait until later: gift vouchers, a waiting list.
What’s included
What you get.
- What to build. The pages, screens or features your idea needs, and what can wait until later.
- How it should work. Who uses it and what they do, step by step, in plain English.
- An estimated build budget. An initial budget range, with the assumptions behind it, to help you decide what to do next.
- A written plan that’s yours. Take it to any developer, or use it to build with me.
Pricing
How it’s priced.
Your first conversation is free. If further planning would help, I’ll explain the work involved and agree a fixed fee with you before starting.
Questions
Project planning questions
Do I need project planning?
Not always. Most website projects can be quoted after a first conversation. Planning helps when the idea is bigger or less defined, such as an online tool.
Can I take the plan to another developer?
Yes. The plan is yours to use, including with another developer.
How long does it take?
It depends on the size of the idea. The proposal sets out the dates in writing before we start.
Next step
Tell me about your idea.
Describe what you’d like to build, even if it’s rough, and I’ll reply within two working days.
